Pokèmon Heading To iOS and Android

Engadget have released a post regarding Pokèmon heading to iOS and Android, something that hit news earlier last week, but that news was a "music game". You can read the whole article here, but one section made us take more attention.

Taken from Engadgets article:
"With all of that in mind, it was a bit surprising to hear that a Pokemon card game is headed for the iPhone and Android devices in Japan this summer -- after all, Nintendo does own a share of the popular monster-based franchise."

I'd like to point you all in the direction of our Pokèmon Proposition articles posted along a while ago, Here, here, here and here

Yes, OUR idea that we put to both Apple and Nintendo. We'll update as and when we get more info.

Tech Beever is not happy.

We Want Your Pokemon

Well, we dont, we have our own, but we want your teams.

Who's the critter that stays in your team no matter what, the ones you only use when facing the Elite Four, the one you make into you TM whore, or even the ones you keep in your team even though they're useless, but you have a soft spot for him/her because of the anime. Either way, let us know! Don't forget to include what generation you're playing!

Pokemon Proposition [update]

Well, the journey of our dreams has come to an end. Today, we received a response from Nintendo, and it seems our idea for a Pokemon Digital Trading Card game on iOS has been declined.

"Hello,

Although we appreciate your interest in sharing your ideas for a digital Pokemon trading card game, we are unable to pass along or accept unsolicited ideas for legal reasons. For more information, please visit the following address:

[removed for legal reasons]

Also, be sure to check our website's What's New section (http://www.nintendo.com/whatsnew) regularly for all the latest information and announcements regarding our products.

Sincerely,

Shawn Ford
Nintendo of America Inc."

Is this the end of our dream? Heck no, we shall still keep fighting, so show your support and vote in the poll!

Tech Beever BrainWave: The Pokemon Proposition [update]

Well, both Apple and Nintendo have been contacted, so now we play the age old waiting game.
We really think this could work (you can read all about 'this' here(pt1) and here(pt2) if you don't know already!)
But what do you guys think? Do you want to see our Pokemon Digital Trading Card game idea on iOS? Would you be willing to buy your cards via iTunes/App Store?

As always, let us know in the comments below, and don't forget to vote on the Pokemon Proposal poll!

Tech Beever BrainWave: Part 2: The Pokemon Proposition

If you were reading yesterday, you would have witnessed the most amazing idea since man decided to put doors on walls. Yes, the Tech Beever Brainwave Pokemon Proposition. What does that entail then? Well, you can read the whole thing here, but essentially, we want Pokemon digital trading cards on iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch (not necessarily that platform, Android etc would be cool too, but Apple is the obvious choice in terms of users, iTunes, App store etc). Today, you can see yet more mock ups, this time of user interface on both iPhone and iPad.

Pressing the Pokeball will take you to the Pokemon Digital Trading Card Homescreen

From here, you can access your card collection, link up with friends to trade cards,
head online to see who's playing/trading, search for your friends, chat to people,
buy cards via in app purchase, battle with people, edit your profile,
and connect via Gamecenter and Facebook

Choosing your cards for battle brings up your chosen card, with the option to
return to your collection, or choose yes/no

The battle screen is one giant table, with your health points, card collection, attacks, energy cards, and chat and home buttons nested on the bottom,
whilst your opponents moves are brought up automatically on the top when they make a move/chose a card.

Taking your battles with you is easy, as you can easily sync your collection to your iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch with ease.
This also allows you and your friends to challenge each other
or make trades wherever you are.

Well, that's part 2 of our Pokemon Proposition. We contacted Apple yesterday, so hey, you never know, the impossible might happen, and we could see our dream realised!
Want to help? Glad you do! You can vote on our poll, and when we say vote, we mean "get your friends, family, their friends, their family, their friends, their family, on behalf of your pets, their pets, their friends' pets and so on, because we need thousands of thousands of votes guys. So get on it folks!

Tech Beever BrainWave: Part 1: The Pokemon Proposition

Poke-fever has hit the Tech Beever team, but in all honesty, we genuinly feel the franchise is wasted on the DS. Don't get us wrong, we love the games, but it's not all about the RPG games, what about the trading cards?
Well, that's where Tech Beever Brainwaves comes in. You see, we've been talking it over, and, although it'll never happen, imagine a digital Pokemon trading card game on your iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch...

Yes, yes, we know there was a trading card game on the GameBoy Color, but stay with us. Imagine being able to buy your cards via iTunes, battling friends over GameCentre, being able to trade your cards with each other, maybe some Facebook integration, with the added luxury of scrolling through your collection Cover Flow style. We're honestly drooling at the prospect.
So much so, that we've created a few little mock-ups of what could entail. Below, you'll find our dreams of Pokemon Digital Trading Cards on iPad and iPhone 4. No in-game footage, obviously.

Our little iPhone 4 Advert, if you look close, the tittle over the 'i' is actually a Poke-ball
Well, we've copyrighted the fundamental ideas, so now we're now going to put the idea to both Apple and Nintendo, and if they care about us, they'll listen...

Pokemon Black Review

[UPDATE] We'll be adding to this review daily, so don't worry, it'll be more in depth!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gotta catch 'em all, or so they say. It's no secret, I'm a big Pokemon fan, and at 24 years of age, you'd think that  would have changed. But it hasn't.
Pokemon Black and White are not only the best in the series, they've reinvented it.

Don't get me wrong, you still play a young kid, you still choose a starter of the fire, water or grass type, and ultimately, you'll travel regions training until you can become the ultimate Pokemon master.
So what makes Black and White the best? Well, Game Freak have started over with this instalment, every single Pokemon is new, so veterans and newbies alike, are now on the same battle field. Also, you don't see a Zubat, so that's a kudos point already!

The main problem, though, is the Pokemon. They're not quite up there when it comes to the most loved of the series, but seeing as now, every Pokemon you encounter is brand new, you can forgive Game Freak, because it's all a new feeling, everyone starts at the bottom.

The Graphics are the best in the series, although they're using the same engine as the previous incarnations, the overall 3D effect is used much more abruptly, making buildings, bridges, even the ever changing weather stand out more.
There's the C-Gear, which is displayed on the lower screen and keeps on constant check on who's online, in which you can jump into battles and trades with people almost instantly, and it works surprisingly well.

And you know what? That's about it. I really wanted to go in depth with this review, but the truth is, I'm not that far into the game, so I'm still learning! But the key thing is, it's Pokemon. It's the same formular, but it's improved. If you're a die hard fan, you've probably already brought it, but if you're not a fan, this isn't going to sway you.

You're just going to miss out.

Pokémon Black and White: 5 Days To Go

Well, on March 4th, Pokémon Black and White versions will get their European launch. Which will you be buying? Do you even care? Let us know!

Feature: The Bond Of a Pokémon

It's a strong, memorable part of a persons life, whether it was from the originals, or the latest incarnation, but it's a moment you never forget;
Your starter Pokémon.

I remember being sat in my kitchen, firing up my GameBoy, my friend Anthony sat at the other end of the kitchen table. Pokémon Red booting up on my GameBoy, Pokémon Blue in his.

I knew before I'd started which Pokémon I would be choosing, and as soon as I selected the Poké ball and that weird sprite appeared, I knew I'd made the right choice. Charmander chirped his 'growl' and I was happy.

As I traveled the region of Kanto, I found myself becoming attached to Charmander, with every battle he won I'd want to actually praise him, whilst the ones he lost, I'd worry how far the nearest Poké-centre was.
As you start the game at just a Level5, fights can take quite some time, but as your exp, grows, you cant help but feel a little proud of your little Poképal, a bond that's always going to continue through the game.
And that's where the clever bit reveals itself.
No matter what Pokémon you encounter and capture, your starter Pokémon is your favourite, your go to guy, the one you can rely on.

And thats where I think Nintendo hit the idea of Pokémon right on the head. You care about your Pokémon, especially your starter. Your first Pokémon is the one who's seen everything with you, been through all the hardships you've faced, saved you when some of your lower level Pokémon have sadly fainted. He's stood by you, and you're thankful for it.
The amount of time you've poured into making your starter stronger, reliable, has been time that you've found yourself bonded to the point of frustration.

You see, when you pick your starter Pokémon, your rival will choose his depending on element advantage (fire-water, water-grass, grass-fire), so no matter all the battles youve won, everytime you face your rival, you know that there's a good chance his starter will beat yours. That's not always the case, but when you lose, you feel angry, sad, but you don't give up. You weigh up his team against yours, and come up with a strategy; with your starter playing an intricate part.

The battles are playing in the standard RPG form of turn-based attacks.
As your Pokémon grows, it will go through a change known as evolving. You can prevent this from happening if you wish, but some attacks can only be learnt in their evolved forms. I opted to allow Charmander to evolve, from Charmander to Charmeleon, all the way through to Charizard. As did my rival, who ended up with a Blastoise (Squirtle>Wartortle>Blastoise).

Obviously, your choice changes from game to game; Pokémon Yellow (based on the Anime series) see's you starting with a Pikachu.
My Gold/Silver starter was Totodile, the water Pokémon, as did my friend Davy.
As I started Silver (now in colour!) I felt the same feelings all over again. Totodile was my companion, and I knew we'd be seeing this adventure through to the end. Well, at least until I evolved him.

It wasn't until Pokémon Diamond/Pearl, that I became so attached to my starter Pokémon, Chimchar, that I didn't want him to evolve. Yeah, he was this cute fire-type monkey, but he seemed so much more characterised than my previous starters. I did end up trading to get another Chimchar, but that was because I wanted Infernape, which my Chimchar actually out-levelled on certain occasions, plus, it felt pretty good having both Chimchar and Infernape in my team.

Who's A Cutey

Pokémon is a game that stands out. It's aimed at children, as is the anime, the movies, the trading cards, but it appeals to adults in an entirely different way (well, except me, I'm a pretty geeky kid at heart). Pokémon proves that it's possible to care, almost love an entirely made up creature. A creature that you have raised, something that's helped you, fought for you, almost died for you. Your starter Pokémon are the special ones. The ones that make the journey worth taking, worth wasting hours and hours on.
And you know what? They deserve every single second you care to give them.
