E3 Highlights: Part 1

Written By Tech-Beever on Monday, 13 June 2011 | 13:02

E3 2011 was phenomenal. No two ways about it. Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo all proved that they're packing heat.

But what was so great about this years E3?

Without a doubt, the top of the list has to be Wii U.
Nintendo's successor to the Wii, the Wii U brings the casual and hardcore gamers together, with Nintys most accomplished console yet. A slim console that delivers high end HD graphics, that developers are already proclaiming they're on board to bring the likes of Batman, Darksiders II, Tekken, Dirt, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Ghost Recon Online, Assassin's Creed, Metro: Last Light, and Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge all apparently making the move to Wii U.

But it's the controller that's got everyone talking. Although it bears resemblance to the Dreamcast controller, it takes more of an 'iPad with buttons' approach, and the result is something special.

Other than acting as a touchscreen input, the controller can actually display your game, so if the missus wants to watch Emmerdale, you can carry on playing whilst she watches her soaps.

But Nintendo wasn't the only folks there, so here's our highlights (in no particular order) from E3 2011.

Playstation Vita

Although the PS Vita has kind of been around a while (known as the NGP) it was inevitable that it'd show it's face at E3. And show it did. We got to see the likes of Uncharted: Golden Abyss, littleBIGplanet shown to great effect. But a big highlight, was seeing the Vita-PS3 crossover demoed. A game called Ruin showed how you can start your game on Playstation 3, then continue almost instantly (bar an 8second load time) on the Vita, as shown in GamingTrend's video below.

It's a feature that is highly exciting, and better yet- we've been told the cloud saving system will be free. Just got to pay the £249+ for a PS Vita...

Kinect Star Wars (Xbox 360)

It was only a matter of time... Yeah right, we've wanted this since the original Wii was announced! Although we're not sure when we'll get our hands on it, Kinect Star Wars has us mighty excited!
See the embedded video below for Engadget and Joystick's hands on.

Uncharted 3 (ps3)

You may or may not know, but we here at Tech Beever are MASSIVE Uncharted fans. Especially myself and Dan. So much so we started The Uncharted Saviour League to boycott the upcoming movie (and guess what- it's not being made now!). But even we were surprised at just how good the E3 trailer was. Watch it. Just- watch it.

Halo 4 (Xbox 360)

I'll be perfectly honest, I saw this coming. But did it surprise me still? Kind of. But the fact we have so little info means, well, we've not much else to say.
Other than HOLY CRAP HALO 4!!!

Tomb Raider (Multiformat)

Lara's new adventure is shaping up to be her best yet, and if the E3 trailer was anything to go by, she's looking better than ever.

Hitman: Absolution (PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360)

This was a big surprise. After the 5 year old Blood Money, Agent 47 seemed to vanish from our consoles. But all is forgiven with Absolution. The trailer is amazingly well presented, and when we got to witness a brief game play demo, we were very impressed.

That just about wraps up our E3 Highlight's Part 1, stay tuned for part 2, where we'll have more of our favourite highlights from this years E3 event.
